Our Story, part 'the proposal'

It was a simple proposal, no bells and whistles, but I'll tell how it went down, since people want to know anyway.

I had gotten home from a fly-fishing field trip to the Green River that morning, and was tired, and gross. We ate lunch with a couple of my good friends from Cali, and then talked about what we wanted to do that night. I told Alexander that I didn't want to plan because I was super tired, so he suggested dinner at Gloria's Little Italy, and then the movie UP.
Gloria's is, hands down, my favorite place to eat, and so I agreed to his plan. It was a very fun night, and the movie was perfect, and very romantic. After the movie, we stopped at Smith's (for some unknown reason, except I knew, because I had seen the box shape in his jacket pocket), and Alexander returned from the store with a dozen deep pink roses. After putting the roses in a vase at my apartment, we went for a walk, much like one we had taken the day we decided we were dating.

We stopped in the field of grass that used to be occupied by Deseret Towers, and Alexander told me he wanted to ask me a question. I said okay, and he got down on one knee and asked me if I would marry him. I said yes, and he put the ring on my finger. Now, six months later, we are finally getting married!

Being engaged this long has had its perks. I didn't want to be engaged this long initially, but the long engagement has really given us time to make sure that we're making the right decision. It has given us time to get to know each other and have the opportunity to ask every question we could think of. I'm very lucky to be marrying such an amazing man, and in just less than 2 days!

our story, part dos

I was anticipating Alexander's return from NM greatly. In fact, he stopped at my apartment for dinner very soon after returning to Utah (we're talking hours here, people). The next day, we went to a baseball game, got soaking wet, spent the whole day together, and decided we were dating. We spent so much time together the next few weeks.

On Mother's day, Alexander drove me up to my parent's house so that I could talk to my missionary brother, and see my other brother ordained to the Aaronic priesthood. I was so grateful that he offered to drive me, and I was also worried because it was going to be a VERY long day, since my brother was calling at 7 am MST. Luckily, it turned out to be an amazing day, and by the end, we were sitting in the car, talking about our options as far as marriage was concerned.

We continued to talk and discuss and ring shop for another few weeks, until we finally picked out a ring. The next weekend, on June 13th, Alexander asked me if I would marry him. I said yes, and he put the ring on my finger.

Our Story, part 1

Alexander and I met in November 2008, at the testing center. We both happened to be taking exams the same Thursday evening, when the fire alarm went off. For those of you unfamiliar with the testing center, this is not a place where a fire drill is normal. After the fire alarm had been going off for some time, the employees reluctantly instructed us to put our exams in a pile and evacuate the building.

After evacuating the building, I found myself standing next to a tall, skinny, handsome young man, who I decided to strike up a conversation with. I found out he was studying civil engineering (yes!) and that his name was Alexander, and that he was from Albuquerque. We chatted about the unfortunate fire alarm and what tests we were taking. Soon enough, we were allowed back into the building to resume our miserable exams. The proctor handed them out by name, and I paid close attention so that I could get this cute boy's whole name and perhaps facebook stalk him. This did indeed work, and after the exam, I was successful in finding Alexander.

I did not, however, attempt to contact him. It was obvious that he was involved with another girl, and that they were definitely dating. So I didn't do anything, except remember his name every time I took a test, and facebook stalk him to see if I could discern whether or not he was still involved with said female.

Months later, in March, after a test, I decided that I had little to lose and that I was going to send Alexander a message. It said the following:

a long time ago, the fire alarm went off in the testing center. i think we chatted for a few minutes outside until we got to go back in and finish our exams. i know this is silly, but i still remember your name from when they were handing back the exams.

anyways, ever since then i've been wanting to get in touch with you and perhaps get to know you better. that's probably a little weird, and i won't be surprised if you don't respond. however, i hope that maybe you aren't too weirded out by this and that we could meet again and eat jdawgs or something.

peace out,
Kate

I was surprised when I was met with a friend request and a suggestion that we do lunch or dinner the following day. It happened that, despite taking the semester off to go to Egypt for two weeks and moving back to NM for the other part of the semester, Alexander happened to be in Provo visiting when I sent him the message. We met after devotional the next day and had a somewhat awkward lunch at the Cougareat. We saw each other a few more times on his trip to Provo, and by the end of his trip, I was positive I wanted to date this boy. I was also sure that he was interested in me too, but he was going to be in New Mexico for three weeks before he returned to Utah for the Spring term.

Wedding Festivities

Hey friends!

We are getting married Saturday! I know, it's coming up soon!

On Saturday, we aren't having a reception, just a small luncheon for close family and friends.

We hope to have a party at our apartment in American Fork sometime soon (a.k.a. when we figure out what to do with all our boxes...), so we'll keep you posted.

Until then, thanks for all your support!
Kate and Alexander
