A Summer Chronicle

Our summer might be chronicled by the places I nursed Anna:

At the Lincoln Memorial, Washington, DC
I nursed Anna at the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, DC, where we traveled to celebrate Lauren's wedding on May 18th.
Beautiful bride and friend of 6(?!) years
I nursed Anna on the train to Utah, where we celebrated my little brother's wedding (just one week after Lauren's!).

And sent my brother off on a 2-year mission to Omaha, Nebraska

I nursed Anna A LOT on the train from Utah to Illinois. It was just me and her. Phew! It was a crazy ride, but it actually went really well. We had lots of help from the other folks on the train and I'm so grateful.

I nursed Anna twice this summer in Wheeling, WV, where we stayed a night on our way out to Pennsylvania, and a night on our way home from Pennsylvania.

I nursed Anna at Nate and Cara's home, where we stayed for a night of good friends, games, and celebrating their new home and Cara's birthday. (let's try to forget about the car accident...)

I nursed Anna in two different homes in Philadelphia, where generous people allowed us to stay during Alexander's internship at Amtrak.

I nursed Anna at Rehoboth beach in Delaware, where we met Lauren and her new husband, James and spent the day catching up, catching rays, and catching waves.

I nursed Anna in Independence Hall, where both the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution were signed.

I nursed Anna in Central Park, on the Upper West Side, in Brooklyn, at the Museum of Natural History, and atop the Empire State Building.
Nursing at the Museum of Natural History on Anna's second birthday
And finally, when we arrived home, to Savoy IL, on the second of August, I nursed Anna in her own room.

time for an update--Winter 2012-2013

It's time for an update, y'all! Seeing as my last post was...December 4, we've got a lot to cover! First up, December:

Last day at Kindermusik. We loved the Kindermusik class taught by our sweet friend Alysa. Anna is now always requesting a song, and I don't know whether to thank or blame Kindermusik, haha.

We had a cold but not snowy December. That still meant that we could bundle up and look like Eskimos...

We had an amazing ward Christmas Party with a Bethlehem theme. Here's our little family in at the nativity scene.

We had a nice Christmas. We spent Christmas Eve with dear friends--in, and quiet. Christmas morning was quiet too. It was just Alexander, me, and Anna. There was much rejoicing, much wrapping paper, and much delicious food with our neighbors, friends, and the missionaries.

unwrapping gifts--she finally got the hang of it!
Pure exhilaration. She was sooooooo excited about Elmo!!
One of my favorite and most common sights--Anna looking up at me.

Trying out mom's new Christmas gift--an Ergo. Highly recommended!

Visiting Miller's Dry Goods in Arthur, IL. Anna was convinced that this shelf was just her size and kept going back to it so she could sit on it.

Ready to go--day trip to Chicago. We visited the Aquarium, the American Girl Store, the Lego Store, Sprinkles, and ate some authentic Chicago deep-dish pizza.

pockets! also, pretty serious. Sometimes she just is this way.

Anna has figured out how to take photos with my phone--the camera is the only thing she can access while my phone is locked, so she's become rather good at it. I do, however, have to delete a lot of blank/black/blurry photos daily. Here are a couple of the good ones. She's also taken some videos--they are pretty funny! I will try to figure out a way to upload them here someday.

Other Anna updates:

She has more than 50 words (I stoppped counting at 50 :) ).
Favorites are:
Elmo (mehmo)
up (bup!)
dinner (ninner)
shoes
puppy
couch (for the little green one that she got for Christmas)
cookie
cracker
mail
go, go, go!
see (request to pick her up so she can "see" what is up high)
chair
song (always a request/demand for a song--keeps me on my toes)
brrrrrr!

She likes to eat:
clementines, beans, berries, smoothies, crackers, cheese cubes, apples, oatmeal, peppers, pizza, carrots, peas (she will take my hand, lead me to the freezer, and say "peas?"), and most of what we eat. I don't think that she really dislikes anything specifically or categorically.

She likes to:
go get the mail, go to the store, play with Levi (wahwah) and Benjamin (menmen) and see Alysa (syssa), go to nursery (nurney), kick the ball ("kick!"), play with bottles (lotion bottles, empty bottles, spray bottles, she likes them all), play ring-around-the-rosies (see-see), watch the trains go by (chugga chugga choo choo!), read books (boo! eead!), and color (cayn, paper?).

She's learning to:
Say "yes" (emphatic head nod, and "ses!"), take off pajamas and jackets, put legos together, nap later in the day, sleep all night, request desired food, knock on the door (especially loves to do this when she hears the shower turn off in the morning--then runs to the bathroom to knock for daddy to let her in), go down the slide, run, stall, and smile for the camera.

Anna Today

The day isn't over yet, but I thought I'd just document a normal day for little miss Anna.

Woke up 6:45am, just in time for dad to get her up before he left.
Clean diaper and dressed, we head downstairs to play a little before breakfast. Playing usually includes a smattering of books; today, we read:
A Christmas Prayer
Ten Little Fingers and Ten Little Toes
Are You My Mother
The Dumb Bunnies
Curious George goes Fishing
But No Elephants
Little Quack's ABC's
I See Colors
Star Wars Heroes
But Not The Hippopotamus
I Love You Like Crazy Cakes
Good Neigh Bear Coloring Book

Breakfast--Oatmeal Squares (her favorite) and usually a banana (oops! need to go shopping!)
Video chat with Patti (not unusual--a highlight of her day)
Nap, 9:30--11:30. I took the monitor across the street to a friend's house and got a batch of bread going.
Change and eat lunch. Today, we ate leftover roasted potatoes, carrots, and onions (yummmm!)
More play--right now, reading--Madeline, My First BYU Book, and I'm Trying to be Like Jesus.

And, of course, some pictures of Anna, today.

The Great Pumpkin of 2012

Sorry for the lack of posts, my computer is down, which means all pictures are down for now too :(. Here's a picture of Anna in her Halloween costume:

I was worried about being unoriginal, but I do believe she was the only pumpkin at the trunk or treat (with over 300 people!). I spent the better part of a day making this and even though Anna won't remember it, I'll definitely remember the cute way that she toddled about the packed cultural hall watching all of the trunk-or-treat going-ons. She had a really fun time watching everyone and everything. Her favorite prize from the trunk-or-treat was a glow stick. She was waving it about and giggling at it the entire time we were trunk-or-treating and on the way home.

Anna's Birthday

Anna turned 1!

We had some friends over to help us celebrate:
The Stewarts (Jacob, Alysa, Benjamin, and Levi)
The Lees (Mike, Evelyn, and Justin)
The Prices (Aaron and Lindsey)
The Leckies (Holly and Mike)
Korean neigbors (see previous post)

Anna got some fun presents:
Books and toys from Grandma and Grandpa Lovett
A headband from the Stewarts
Adorable clothes from the Lees
A classic ring-stacking toy from the Prices
A potty time book from the Korean neigbors

We ate:
Yellow cake with strawberry filling and whipped cream icing
Homemade ice cream: vanilla bean, cheesecake, strawberry, and pineapple mango sorbet

We sang: Happy Birthday to you!

At age 1, Anna:
loves music and dancing
devours fresh fruit of any variety
laughs when we play peek-a-boo
has perfected her crawl (and man is she fast!)
growls at any given animal
Has visited Wisconsin, Indiana, Missouri, Iowa, Nebraska, Colorado, Utah, Kansas, and Oklahoma
Has 4 teeth
Likes being upside down
cries when daddy leaves for school and smiles when he returns
reads books like a champ
climbs up the stairs, but not down

And, to finish it off, some photos of Anna on her real birthday! We celebrated by sharing a free cookie at the grocery store and taking a LONG nap.
